““Peaceful abiding” describes the mind as it naturally is. The word peace tells the whole story. The human mind is by nature jouyous calm, and very clear. In shamatha meditation we aren’t creating a peaceful state–we’re letting our mind be as it is to begin with.”
This 5 class series with Brian Hilliard presents an introduction to the practice of shamatha, the development of peace. The practice is based on cultivating our inherent goodness through meditation techniques. On completion of the course you will be confident that you can practice meditation.
Each class provides a friendly community atmosphere in which to share experiences. There will be special emphasis on how to bring meditation practice into daily life, at home and in the the workplace.
The course will be based on the extraordinary book by Sakyong Mipham, “Turning the Mind into an Ally”. This is book presents thorough instruction on the practice of meditation. We will also cover teachings from “Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior”. Both provide a rich and complete introduction to the path of meditation.
One of the unique aspects of the Shambhala curriculum is how it addresses the relationship of meditation to creating a good society. This Shambhala vision is based on cultivating one’s inherent basic goodness as the foundation for all relationships. These connections are the building blocks of enlightened society.
Meditation in Everyday Life in Brussels is designed for beginners who want to learn meditation, and for experienced practitioners who want to explore meditation through lens of Shambhala Vision. It is the very first course in the Shambhala curriculum and a great way to explore what Shambhala Buddhism is all about. Meditation in Everyday Life is also good preparation for “The Art of Being Human”, the first level of the Shambhala Training program.
Classes are on Wednesdays, 10, 17, 31 January and 7, 14 February.
